CLAS Faculty Mentorship Program

Our Goal

To provide undergraduate students who are currently experiencing academic challenges with an enhanced level of attention and resources so that they can progress in their academic goals and see them through to graduation.

Mentor Role

A CLAS Faculty Mentor is a faculty member interested in being a critical part of our community effort to create a more effective learning environment.  As a Mentor you agree to serve as a coach for one or more undergraduate students for the Spring 2017.

You should meet early in the semester (within the first two weeks of classes), and additionally at least one more time throughout the semester.  You will be asked to provide feedback after your interactions and again at the end of the program.

A Community of Support

You should know that, as a CLAS Faculty Mentor, you are not expected to work alone.  Your student is also assigned to a CLAS Advisor in Student Academic Services who will simultaneously work with him/her to stay on track academically.  Using the tools provided, you can act as a bridge that connects your student with the resources he or she needs in order to achieve his/her academic, career, and life goals.

As this program grows, we are committed to exploring ways to continually improve the experience for both mentors and students.  This fall we are adding three opportunities for faculty mentors to gather and learn from each other as well as our colleagues across KU.
